Non-Profit Solutions

Non-profit Web DesignCommunication - Communicating a message for a non-profit organization is generally expensive.  Pamphlets, newsletters and mass mailings are consistently becoming less affordable and less effective.  Getting your message out, keeping people abreast of your organizations activities and establishing a presence in cyberspace has never been more important.  Prolitical has a unique perspective for the needs of non-profits.

Collaboration - How does your organization communicate with each other?  Non-profits are generally made up of special subsets of people, a board of directors, permanent staff, volunteers, boosters, etc - all of which need to be on the same page.  Our philosophy is designed to cover all aspects of communication, how can we help you?

Interaction - Non-profit organizations are built on interaction.  Volunteers, fundraising and giving members a sense of belonging are the lifeblood of a non-profit.  Prolitical's focus on interaction in non-profits is unique and it begins with the proper understanding of how your organization is established.

Case Study: ALS Association - Jim "Catfish" Hunter Chapter

Challenge: Redesign, organize and consolidate a sprawling website of static pages that had previously been compromised with malware.  In this case, the door was wide open for formulating new ways of presenting information, involving patients and caregivers, increasing donations and further promoting the association's mission.

In economic uncertainty, charitable organizations are often the hardest hit.  The key component in the project was keeping costs low while offering the maximum in automation, services and support.

Implementation Strategy: Organization - The number one goal was to immediately put all of the chapter's 500 pages and stories into a database that could be searched, organized and distributed.  Prolitical's XMP platform was the ideal solution for adding such power to content.  Each piece of news, press release, events or other content was given careful consideration of how it can be used in a new way.  News was given a classification of either General, Research or Advocacy news.  However, with such a diverse range of activities, this organization's content like-wise needed further classification.

A 'tagging' system was devised to support giving any content multiple attributes such as fundraiser recaps, front page alerts, etc.  With all of the content classified, the chapter could then push out  their message in ways that were never possible before.

Branding - The Chapter had uniquely designed many non-conventional programs for accepting donations.  The challenge facing unconventional methods is the lack of publicity they receive.  The solution was to brand the concept of having more than one way to give to the chapter by introducing the '8 Ways to Give' program complete with a logo and prominent placement on the website.

Other Value Added Features:

  • Integrated Calendar - Chapter events are organized by type and can be extracted by date, walks, support groups or any other means.
  • Automated Content - Using Prolitical's Digger product, the chapter automatically receives notification when a national level article is published and it is then automatically published on the chapter's site.
  • Member Managed - All staff has access to edit content based on a powerful permission-based system.
  • Maximized Screen Real Estate - The Chapter's homepage is one its most valuable tools.  A rotating promo section was introduced to maximize awareness of key events.
  • Search Engine Optimization - While the site was being designed, careful consideration was given to how the site can be crawled by Google, Bing, etc easily.  For example, news links were converted from a "article47.html" format to a "/study-shows-patients-progress" clean format.  One of the most powerful features of the Prolitical XMP system is a built in mechanism for notifying search engines when content has been created or updated.
  • Individual Contact Forms - Forms replace raw email addresses for staff members as well as subject-based messages, i.e., "Fundraising Inquiry"
  • RSS Feeds - Chapter news can be subscribed and distributed easily
  • Social Networking - Web 2.0 bases covered: Twitter, YouTube, Facebook
  • Integrated Search Engine - Getting content into a database allows for powerful searching of content
  • Alert System - When the chapter has a significant message that requires instant release, an alert system can be triggered which enables a window overlay of the homepage of the message.

Result: The Catfish Hunter Chapter's online presence was bolstered a thousand times over.  The power of the site is centered around two Prolitical products, Digger and XMP.  The '8 Ways to Give' branding has brought awareness to the multiple ways to support the chapter. The RSS feeds will allow for patients and caregivers diagnosed with the Lou Gehrig's Disease to stay up to date on experimental research, clinical trials or other hope-filled content.

After implementing these new changes, a significant increase in traffic and exposure for the chapter was evident.  Patients diagnosed with ALS were much more able to locate life-extending resources; Caregivers were more educated than ever and donors were made aware of the many simple ways to contribute to the chapter.
